NOIR CITY | SF 2020 - Part 5 | Bill Selby's Touch of Genius

Updated: Nov 12

Take my wrap-around book cover with it's grainly silver-screen shimmer, full lips that put you in the mood for a femme fatale and take you back to Hollywood circa 1947.

Then sprinkle SHAMUS DUST with SELBY DUST and suddenly we're in Bill's world of noir. Best not ask how he got there. But in one move the silver screen hits rock bottom and what stares us in the face certainly is not Hollywood glamor.

In his recent review of Shamus Dust, writer, novelist, music journalist, and biographer Chris Nickson sums it up when he says, "Roger can write like a dirty, noir dream that thrashes in the small hours."

Seems Bill Selby agrees. And as Noir City's Graphic Designer, what he created for me is a full-page ad for the NOIR CITY 18 Program. It certainly looks very fine sitting between iconic photos of Jean Gabin and Magali Noëlle in Razzi (1955) and Jean-Paul Belmondo in Le Doulos (1962). Thank you Bill.
